2020 has definitely been a difficult year…for pretty much all of us. From a pandemic to social injustice to celebrity deaths, we’re dealing with something we aren’t very familiar with. The New York Times notifications continue to roll in leaving no light at the end of the tunnel
Everyone is anxious to get back to their regular lives — going out to dinner, walking around maskless, putting an end to remote working and learning, but who really knows if we are ever going to be back to what we are used to?
It sounds terrifying, the thought of this new normal being permanent. But we’ve already spent five months wishing this away…we don’t want to end up wasting a year+ longing for better times.
It’s weird and it’s different and it’s unsettling. Paying for rent but not knowing when our next paycheck will come in. Forcing ourselves to focus on our schoolwork when the only way to learn is by staring at a screen all day. Avoiding close contact with our loved ones because of the fear of unknowingly spreading the virus.
It’s tough but we’re learning. We’re coming up with creative ways to get together, using Zoom to its max potential and attempting to use the Internet for good rather than evil. We’re using Instagram for more than just showing off our bikinis and we’re sharing voices that used to be shouted over.
We need to start getting comfortable with the fact that things are different and see how we can come out of this as better people.
